Three Rhode Island drywall contractors have been charged with wage theft following an investigation by the Department of Labor and Training and the state's attorney general. The contractors were arraigned today in Providence Superior Court after allegedly stealing more than $64,000 in wages from 14 workers during construction and renovation of RISE Prep Mayoral Academy in Woonsocket between 2018 and 2019. The defendants were supposed to pay prevailing wages at rates of more than $50 per hour. Instead, according to the Office of Attorney General Peter Neronha, the companies paid workers between $20 and $25 per hour and kept the difference.
